How We Run Our Club

What Do We Do!

Our prize money for each season is guaranteed before the start of each season. This is achieved by the following means. Our sponsor secretary writes letters to local businesses in the town asking them if they would sponsor a race ,the usual sponsorship for each race asked is £20.00 in return the businesses receive publicity through the local press and pigeon journals where our results are published, this has been a successful means of income.
Secondly we have a hundred club in operation where each member and any family and friends pay 50p a week. They each have a number if there is a hundred people in the hundred club we pay out £100 in a monthly draw and the other £100 goes to the club. This means that we have an income of £1200 per year from the hundred club, this all goes towards the prize money.
Also we have what we call nominations at the beginning of each season, this works as follows, each member decides how many birds maximum he wishes to send each week he then pays a one off fee of £1.00 per bird. The total amount raised goes to the prize money, this operates for both old and young bird racing.
From the above monies totalled together we would pay out £100 per race guaranteed, by the above means we can then keep birdage charges to a minimum as no monies from birdage goes to prize money.
We pay £80.00 to the premier ten the remaining £20.00 is paid out in league prizes. We have two leagues worked out on the previous seasons points totals obtained by each member i.e.10 points for 1st down to 1 point for 10th. So if the top points winner accumulates 200 points and the last member 1 point then the dividing line for the leagues is 100 points. £10.00 is paid to each league split into three prizes £5, £3, £2.
This gives all members a chance of winning some prize money and the club feel this is a fair way of distributing the prize money.

The 2002 season

We will be racing in the Staffordshire and Moorlands federation this season. This is a new venture for us and we are confident that it is a step in the right direction as it is a well organised federation and also has a well thought out race program which caters well for both club and national flying.
Last season the club became a clock station for the Midland National Flying Club and again this will be in operation this year.
We like to think we are a forward thinking club and any decisions made are for the benefit of all club members.
All members take an active part in the running of the club be it organisation/marking/clock setting again these are the ingredients for a successful club.
We have a computer at the club headquarters on which a result is worked out and printed off within ten minutes of the last clock being read the result of the race is read out by the club president Brian Smith and the winners applauded by all members.
